About Dee
“I have been an artist for over thirty years and have participated in the Norfolk Open Studios programme since 2006 (with a few gaps). I very much enjoy the experience of showing work at the various events organized as part of the programme, as well as welcoming visitors to my studio, whether or not the visitors were possible purchasers. The compliments are lovely and I am thrilled when a visitor is attracted to an artwork and finally decides to buy it. In 2017 I had to move from my lovely rented studio in a boatyard overlooking Womack Water on the Broads to a purpose built cabin in our garden (see photo). For Norfolk Open Studios I convert the garage, which is next to the studio, into a gallery (see photo), and this gives me much more exhibiting space.
I studied art and design at Norwich City college and work in different media from acrylic to pastels. I am currently concentrating on mixed media collages which I make from my own monoprints. I cut or tear the prints into small random pieces/shapes and reassemble into images which are semi-abstract. I am motivated by colour and many of my images at the moment include flowers. The collage shown was inspired by the lush tropical garden/pool at a favourite retreat belonging to a friend in Portugal.
As visual artists we plough a lonely farrow much of the time anyway and so for me social isolation is not much of an adjustment. It has meant much more time in the studio which is great for creativity. My passion for art keeps me motivated and uplifted and so I relish the extra time allowed for art.”
