About Philip
“We see, we watch and we feel.
My work in recent years has been based on observation, sketch book and studio practice. I use a wide range of media and take delight in the process of image making.
My art making is stimulated by apparently flat visual surfaces, the cliff, the bank of trees, the surface of plants, the ambiguities of picture space. I make pictures that explore and express my sense of dynamic, that encourage me to breathe visually and to become immersed with surface. Yet, I have always been fascinated by narrative, it’s meaning and ordering, its ironies and incongruities.
We are seen; we are watched and we make marks.”
