The Nest Project
The Nest Project Community Art works with groups and schools, we provide arts experiences to further our 4 main objectives:
- Art projects to connect people to nature and raise environmental awareness
- Art projects which help people to enjoy the “great outdoors”
- Creative projects to bring people together with their communities
- Art for wellbeing and mental health
We love getting outside, being creative and producing natural art installations with the groups we work with.
In lockdown, we have started to think about providing our services differently. We are creating online arts experiences for people to try at home or within their school groups and communities. We are encouraging people to get outside and appreciate nature within government guidelines and then post their artwork for us to create a virtual gallery.
Throughout June we are working with schools across Norfolk to create a virtual exhibition of mini nests with pupils. The pupils will have the opportunity to learn about birds and their habitats, try out their engineering skills to make a nest (it’s harder than you might think!) and then “feather” their nests with beautiful decorations, resulting in a beautiful and unique piece of natural art. The children will be asked to think about what sort of bird would make a nest like theirs and name their fantasy bird.
We trialled the project with Home Educated children and the public, who have found themselves temporarily home educating, at the end of May and are now proud to present our gallery of nests.
