Toby Newman – North Norfolk
Toby’s works consist primarily of paintings of boats, birds and landscapes inspired by the local coastal scenery, sea and sky.
About Toby
I am fortunate to live and work in Wells-next-the-Sea where the ever-changing light never fails to impress – this doorstep inspiration is fundamental in my desire to paint, to try and capture these special visual moments. They could be reflections, or the way an evening light brilliantly illuminates the white hulls of the boats moored up the creek. Photography freezes my subject in time and these snapshots are used as a reference for the painting that follows, often created using acrylic or oil on canvas in the natural north light of my studio.
In previous years, in Spring, I have relocated to my gallery on the East Quay in Wells from where I can paint en plein air as well as meeting people, talking about my work and selling pictures, prints and cards. When I’m not there, I might be sailing, birding or painting that next picture!
My gallery will be opening again as soon as it is ok to do so, in the meantime I am selling cards and prints from my website.
